Miss “W” arrived from in the UK having finished school in her home country. She wanted to study Midwifery in the UK but didn’t know how to access education services and she felt she was in a hopeless situation. Through our employability and careers service we helped her in to enrol on a suitable A-Levels course to study for the qualifications necessary for midwifery. We supported her to find employment in a large shop so she was able to support herself financially during her studies. She joined in with the young people activities to help her gain confidence. She has now begun a Midwifery course at University and is feeling hopeful about the future.
Ms “F” came from a background of domestic abuse. She attended ESOL classes as a beginner. Having gained enough confidence she then went on to attend college. She studied up to Level 1 at college. At this point Ms F’s confidence fell again so she returned to Belong where she gained more confidence until she felt able to take the ‘Life In the UK’ test. She passed this test and applied for her British Citizenship. Ms F was referred for employability support at Belong and was able to secure a job working with children. Ms F stated that without Belong’s help she wouldn’t have been able to get the job – she felt that we had been there for the whole journey.
